How many sardines should I feed?
Iron Will intends sardines for supplemental feeding 2-3 times per week. Their weekly serving chart suggests about 2 sardines per week for small dogs (5-20 lbs), 4 for medium (20-40 lbs), 6 for large (40-60 lbs) and 8 for extra-large dogs (80+ lbs). Cats can enjoy them too, in smaller amounts.
How do I store and thaw frozen sardines?
Keep frozen until ready to use. Thaw on a plate in the refrigerator or in cold water, and use within 3 days once thawed. Wash hands, bowls and surfaces after handling, and refrigerate or discard unused portions immediately.
Can I cook the sardines?
Iron Will does not recommend cooking their raw products. Cooking alters the nutritional profile and may diminish important nutrients — and whole fish should never be cooked and fed with bones.
Can I feed sardines alongside kibble?
Yes. Iron Will confirms raw and kibble can be mixed — sardines make a great topper that keeps mealtime fun and interesting for both raw-fed and kibble-fed pets.
